Day 27

When I bought the Inktense pencils, I bought a reddish one - it gives a softer look to the drawing - different from the black and less dramatic.

Day 26

Can't believe there are only 4 more days of the challenge.  I really am having fun with these faces!

Day 23 of 30-Day Challenge

I went to the art store yesterday and bought a few more Inktense pencils - I used the Indigo Blue on this one -- it gives it a softer feel, I think (although you may not be able to tell from the photograph).

Day 22 of 30-Day Challenge

It's interesting that a couple of months ago I cut up some sheets of watercolor paper I had on hand into 8 inch squares - so ended up with about 20-25 squares.  Had no idea what I would do with them.  And here I am doing these drawings of faces on the squares, which I had no idea I would be doing either!  I will be able to make them all into a little book I think.  Funny how things work out.

Day 16 of 30-day challenge

My goal was to do something creative every day of the 30-day challenge.  When I have plans in the evening, sometimes I just can't bring myself to pull out the paints when I get home late.  So, I bought a couple Derwent Inktense pencils and have been doing some drawings.  It is actually very relaxing.  I love these pencils - I understand they also come in blocks.  So, here was one of last night's drawings . . .

Half Way through the Challenge!

There have been a few days when I thought about throwing in the towel on the challenge - last night I spent the evening painting a little still life and it did not come out so great.  Frustrating!

But I have been doing some little drawings using the technique I learned in Pam Carriker's class last Saturday.  Not sure what the whole bald thing is about!  Ha!

Day 14 of 30-Day Challenge

In my class on Saturday, there was this very cute lady with these cool glasses - so snapped a photo and tried doing a little portrait last night.  The thing I notice is that I am constantly looking at people's faces now!

I really didn't mean to give her such a big nose . . .

Day 12 of 30-Day Challenge

Yesterday I went to a mixed media portrait workshop taught by Pam Carriker.  It was super fun and I learned lots of new techniques.  Here is one of my portraits.

Day 10 of 30-Day Challenge

I am giving myself a pat on the back - not because of the painting itself, but because after working all day, meeting a friend after work to walk a couple miles, then get a bite to eat, visit a bit - THEN I came home and did a painting!  Am having fun though!

Day 9

So . . . I took the same subject matter as the day before and painted it in a much more colorful way.

A Different Kind of Face (Day 6)

My mom has 2 Boston Terriers - I have never tried painting them . . . until now!  Here is Abigail.

Day 5

I did come home and paint last night after a full day out and about.  Why didn't I do a few ahead so I could have a couple in reserve?!  May have to work on that.

Day 4

When I got home from work last night, I did not feel like painting.  Had some dinner and then forced myself to sit down and paint.  But, once I got started, I was fine.  This guy was so much fun to paint!

Day 3 of 30-day Challenge

I do have some trouble taking good photos of my paintings - here it looks like she has white paint on her face, but she does not, it's just a very light flesh color (this is after taking about 30 shots).  anyway, it's just practice (the painting and the photography!).

Happy New Year!

I am starting off the New Year with the 30 paintings in 30 days challenge that I did last January.  Not sure if I will be able to complete 30 paintings, but I am going to try to at least do something creative every day, whether it be working in my art journal or sketching or painting.

The artist issuing the challenge is Leslie Saeta, a Southern California palette knife painter.  There are about 360 artists signed up for the challenge. Her blog is:  lesliesaeta.blogspot.com/ if you want to check out all the paintings.

So, to start off the challenge, here is my first painting.
