I went to a painting class yesterday but didn't like the subject matter the teacher wanted us to work on, so decided to just draw instead.  Luckily I had taken some photos to work from.  I thoroughly enjoyed myself.  And I went from being more serious (1st one) to being more funky/whimsical (2nd one).   I, of course, like the funky one better!

Self-Portrait

Growing up, I was definitely a perfectionist.  I have tried to let that go in my later years, especially with my painting.  I usually see things that could be changed with a painting but, for the most part, I leave it as is.  I feel that was my spontaneous expression at that moment in time.

Portrait Class

I took a wonderful 1-day portrait class today from Jenny Doh at her studio in Santa Ana.  Lately, I have been doing a lot of mixed media work (acrylic) - but it felt great to be painting in oil today!

It's such a different experience (for me) using different media.  When I do an oil painting, I feel like a more serious artist.  When I do the mixed media/acrylic paintings, I feel more playful, whimsical and free.  Here is my latest . . .
