Even though I did not paint every day of the 30-day challenge, I still feel successful. The positives I will take from the challenge are: (1) being "engaged" all the time - thinking, dreaming of art - ideas for paintings percolating (!) in my head constantly; (2) being connected to something larger (300 other artists); and (3) having interaction between those artists - it felt great when another artist from the group would comment on one of my paintings (and vice versa).
So, I am ending the challenge on a whimsical note . . . and I will try to create something every day.

Day 29
I have not posted in a while but have been on vacation - went to visit one of my painting pals in San Rafael, California. We did paint during my visit and I decided to try a few "whimsical" paintings -- you know, taking a little vacation from the regular routine. It was really fun and I hope to do a few more of these. So, here is Bird Girl.

Day 19 of 30 Day Challenge
Okay, skipped a few days - life got in the way of my painting . . . but I am thinking about it all the time now . . . so, I will take that as a positive. Today's painting is from a photo I took of a cute little French man in the South of France. (6x6 on gessobord)

Day 13 of 30-Day Challenge
Balboa Island is a great place to snap a few photo of people - that's where I took the photo for this painting. Again, I add polka dots any time I get an opportunity! (6x6 on gessobord)

Day 12 of 30 Day Challenge
I went through all my vacation photos last night to try and come up with subject matter! This photo is from a cooking class in Provence. I tried to keep it very loose and impressionistic . . . (6x6 on gessobord)

Is it only Day Ten?!!!!
One of my painting pals is turning 70 next month and I wanted to do a portrait of her - so, thought I would do a practice painting on a 6x6 panel -- I have to be honest - don't think it really looks that much like her - okay, back to the easel . . .

Day Nine of 30-Day Challenge
I am using this month's challenge to try all kinds of different things - something I would not normally do. I tend to be focused on producing a finished painting. But I want to remember to do that after the 30-day challenge is over - relax and have fun with the painting - and if something doesn't work in one painting, then it might in the next painting . . . (this one is 7x5 on canvas panel).

Day Eight
Although I don't consider this painting a successful one - I painted, wiped out and repainted -- but good practice . . . it's all about putting the brush to canvas . . . (8x8 on stretched canvas)

Day Seven of 30-Day Challenge
The first thing I do when I get up these days is to go look at last night's painting and see if any adjustments need to be made . . .today's painting is 6x6 on Gessobord.

Day Six
Here is a self-portrait -- i stood holding the mirror in my left hand, looking at my face, and painting with my right hand. I think the painting would have been more interesting with stronger shadows - but i didn't have a light shining on me as one would with a live model. The upside is I am always available!

Day Four
I feel like I am
eating, drinking and sleeping painting! I debated at the beginning whether to
do my daily painting in the morning before I went to work - say, at 5:00 a.m. I
am a morning person, so didn't think that would be a problem. But I have
decided that after work is better - in the morning, I would be hurrying to get
the painting done. So far, the evening is working out just fine.
Today's painting is 6x6 on Gessobord.

Day Two
Well, so far, I am having fun - knowing that I have to do a painting each day certainly keeps me engaged - all day at work I am thinking of possible subject matter for that evening's painting.

Day 1 of 30-Day Challenge
I have been wanting to start a project of "100 Faces" but never seem to get around to actually doing it. Then Leslie's paintng challenge came along. So, the perfect time to start. I may not limit myself in the challenge to just faces - probably some figures in there too.
So, here is my Day 1 painting (7x5 on canvas panel):
